Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cadetships

Our department values innovative ideas, passion and drive - we want to support your talent and develop your skills and experience.

A cadetship offers you something new every day. You could be mapping boundaries in a sugar cane paddock, helping with native vegetation or undertaking policy research and development.

The cadetship is designed to develop specialist skills, and provides a minimum of 12 weeks paid work experience each year and access to mentors and support.

After you successfully complete your cadetship and degree, you will also have the opportunity to progress to the interview stage of our graduate program.

We offer several cadetship opportunities for second- and third-year Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander university students from a diverse range of disciplines, including:

• law and justice
• business and economics
• public policy
• environmental science, management or engineering
• applied science (e.g. conservation, geological or hydrological)
• urban and regional planning.

To apply, you must be:

• of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
• enrolled full time at an Australian university
• undertaking your first undergraduate degree.

During the cadetship, you will need to maintain satisfactory progress towards the successful completion of your degree.

Financial support

The cadetship provides paid employment and you may be eligible for additional support via the Australian Government’s Abstudy or Indigenous Cadetship Support initiatives.
