Whole of state satellite imagery

Whole of state satellite imagery was acquired annually in 2016, 2017 and 2018 at 80cm resolution, using the DMC-3 constellation of satellites. This imagery is available for public viewing through the Queensland Globe, and is licensed for use by the Queensland Government, Government Owned Corporations, Local Government Authorities, and the Natural Resource Management Regions Queensland.

The Department of Resources has also coordinated access to the Planet ~3m resolution constellation of PlanetScope satellites. With near-daily coverage of Queensland, this product has provided a major capability uplift to licensed users (as above).

Quarterly ~3-4m mosaics of Queensland from Quarter 3 2016 to Quarter 3 2018 were negotiated as part of the initial contract, and these are available for public viewing through the Queensland Globe. The Quarter 3 2017 mosaic has been made available under a CC-BY-SA licence, and it can be freely downloaded through QImagery.

The current contract which runs from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2024 allows for monthly mosaics of the Great Barrier Reef Catchments and annual statewide mosaics. These mosaics are available to licensed users through the Planet platform and WMS/WMTS.
